Instruction

Learn to play in a relaxed and welcoming environment!  Our young students play games and learn songs of their choice while they learn musical expression, theory, and healthy technique. Older students and adults choose areas of focus, such as:

  • Playing by ear, lead sheets, and chord charts

  • Jazz theory and improvisation

  • Classical repertoire

We offer opportunities to perform and collaborate throughout the year, including small student showcases and a spring recital, at no additional cost.

Policies

Practice:

  • Daily practice is key to progress. Students are expected to practice the assignment at a minimum of 5 days weekly.  Length of the practice session will vary based on the student’s age and level, and some students may need an adult to assist with practice.

  • Each student needs consistent access to an appropriate instrument.  PSP may be able to assist with procuring an instrument.

At the lesson:

  • Please knock at your scheduled lesson time.

  • Bring all materials to each lesson, including completed practice log or notebook, if applicable.

  • Please ensure that your child uses the restroom before the lesson. For your child’s safety, staff members are unable to accompany children to the restroom and cannot be responsible for children outside of the lesson space.

  • To maintain the quality of our one-on-one instruction, staff members are unable to supervise siblings or other additional children during lessons. A family member or other adult must be present to supervise additional children.

Absences:

  • Makeup lessons are available for planned absences (48 hours’ notice required), or in the case of illness or emergency. Students will be billed for all scheduled lesson times in a given month. No refunds are given. Multiple late cancellations or absences without advance notice will lead to the termination of lessons.

  • It is the responsibility of the student or family to request and to schedule makeup lessons.

  • If you wish to discontinue lessons, please reach out in writing two weeks in advance.

  • In case of inclement weather, the studio will follow Madison Metropolitan School District’s closure schedule.
